Extra Hours for Medical appointments plus Minor Injury and illness Walk-in Centre

November 15, 2018

Evening and Weekend appointments are now available for patients of both Arlesey and Larksfield Medical Centres under an Extended Hours agreement. Plus there is now a walk in Urgent Treatment Centre at the Cauldwell Centre at Bedford South Wing Hospital for the treatment of minor injures and illnesses.

The extra appointments are available at either Shefford Medical Centre or at the Ivel Medical Centre in Biggleswade. These are not currently bookable online, you need to contact your own surgery  to arrange. They are manned both by a doctor and a prescribing nurse. These will not necessarily be your usual doctor or nurse but they will have available your full medical records and your own surgery will be kept informed of the visits.

The walk in Centre at Bedford is already proving popular with 250 people attending in the first week. It is available from 11am to 11pm seven days a week and GPs’ and nurses are in attendance.

Both these moves are aimed to take the pressure off local surgeries and, in the case of the walk-in centre at Bedford South Wing hospital pressure off the A&E department.

Out of hours the 111 system is still in operation and for urgent major care you dial 999.
