Apple day 2018

September 30, 2018

The best yet!

That was the over-riding comment from the 2018 Apple Day held on September 29.

Brilliant sunshine certainly brought you all out to help press apples for juice and for the start of the process for this year’s vintage Fairfield Cider. The two apple picking days the previous two weekends and seen loads of apples picked for the occasion plus some brought their own pickings to press. Even so the supply ran out!

A great attraction to two of the youngsters was Fairfield’s own apple press that was making its debut. They beavered away most of the afternoon producing juice for the many of you who brought along apples or who wanted a cup to drink.

The food sideshows reported bumper sales with Fairfield’s own Cardonna & Son running out of produce by 3pm, such were the numbers attending. But also popular were the Bedfordshire Clangers from Gunn’s bakery and crepes from La Crepe Franglaise. Katie from Lower Wilbury Farm did a roaring trade with meat products from Lower Wilbury Farm while husband Dean looked after the sheep and the many youngsters who came to see the animals.

The new stand offering face painting had long ques all afternoon, while the Rev Neil Whitmill spent his afternoon happily blowing up balloons and making shapes for many youngsters. And the two bouncy castles were never without children only too pleased to let off steam.
